Maybe they had been in wrong place at first? Why should Earth spin around such non important place? Lets get one pole to Marylago and another to Pekin for time being.Then we could call the truth. This positive pole do attract everybody and the second is purely repulsive. Some scientist works on magnetic monopole too. Worth to consider monopoly on poles - worth the money when everything in the world will point to one place only!

According to these guys the magnetic pole drift is competing with C02 as the main suspect driving the current climate drift!
AC will merely oscillate the pole but if you can show that your proposed coast to coast DC will bend the pole in a climate-cooling direction. Win , win, you'll get funding for sure.

However, another thought. If sending power DC from east to west is beneficial, when WA has all the sunlight all the good would be undone. We'd need two transmission lines, ACDC. AC west to east. If power shifting was done this way world wide, need to do some sums.

I love nothing more then solving impossible ( and complicate everything even more) .
Lets allow Kiwi land to join our beautiful country as next state. Then we plant few solar panel there - as Kiwi are well behind. Then lay undersea HVDC cable to rectify poles once and ever. Wello has also good wind so we could suck all the power 24/24

HVDC transmission is indeed one way, at a time. The link between the mainland and Tasmania was designed so that it can be driven either way to export power to Tas or import it from Tas.
How this is going to shift the poles or not I couldn't be bothered reading as I am sure its not going to make any sense anyway.

Maxwell's 4th equation links current to magnetic field. I've tried googling the current within the earth's core but can't get an answer in amps. The current in a DC power link might be insignificant but it will add to the earth's magnetic field. And given that magnets interact it would swing the swirls in our molten metal core one way or the other - probably insignificant?? - might need something as sensitive as a LIGO to detect it, but there's always the butterfly effect to consider.

Of course it make sense,.. because when current passes through a conductor it sets up a magnetic field surrounding that conductor. Everybody knows that. It's how electric trains work. they pass a current along that overhead wire and then that pantaloon thingy on top of the train attaches to the magnetic field and gets sucked along the track. That's why they have two tracks, one in each direction. When it gets to the end of the track they just connect the two ends together and the current goes back the other way and takes the train with it back to where it came from. That's why trains always end up back at the depot each night.
And to keep the current going they just take a little bit out at each station to run the station lights,.. plus the light that lights up the station name of course.
It's all quite simple really,.. and I'm sure it will work, and Macroman has now got my vote for pm, oh,.. and a no nobull prize.

We are lucky that Earth core is still melted. Iron at this high temperature is not ferromagnetic but when it cool down and turn solid we may have magnetar like field. When it happen every piece of steel will stick to Earth . The earth has had several magnetic reversals in its life.
The Finnish people call Sirius ( the Dog Star/south star ) the North Star, at some time whilst these humans were on earth this was the North Star , not Polaris as it is currently..
I wrote a lengthy thread on here once in regards to iron ore being shipped around the world and was ostracised for several weeks, it does put the earth off balance, like spinning a basket ball and sticking a 50c piece on a location off centre.
Further putting iron ore into water will pickle it and create an electric charge through electrolysis . This is how it is stored in China particularly when they want higher grades for the steel mills.
The magnetic field does protect us from solar winds and solar flares etc, as the earth to a degree is a conductor the sun does assist with creation of the field and whilst not insignificant is not nearly as important as what happens down here.
Having a molten core in the earth is a large contributing factor, and let's not forget our friend the moon.
The closest thing that you could imagine to perpetual motion is what happens in our Milky Way.
On a small level the moon or it's the earth while the earth orbits the sun on an ecliptical orbit.
The relationship between the earth and moon is gravity related however I also believe that there is an opposing magnetic force , generally using energy will create heat , peddling your bike you heat up, an electric motor heats up, a light heats up. Energy efficiency is at best in most mechanical and electrical items utilised at 50-80% there are motors that say they are 90% plus efficient which to some degree is correct ,,,, however they fail over time and new bearings and componentry must be made which again uses energy.
So we go back to the relationship of the moon and earth, as it rotates in space in a vacuum their is less wasted energy, and again without friction their is less heat generated, however keeping the earths core Molten whilst not causal of the relationship from the earth and moon certainly assists in maintaining the status.
When we than review the magnetic affect of planets and the solar system on the earth we very rarely take into account where the North Pole actually points too,

if if you have a chart giving 1 degree a year made in 2009 it will be 10 degrees now
