Recently had a heart issue (15 weeks ago). A blockage in LAD (left anterior decending artery).
With a drop in weight from 89kg with current weight being 79 kg at the moment. With a total diet change of no sodium, no sugar, no saturated fats. Only what's written on the nutrition information labels,so low numbers. At first it was hard to get used to, but I feel I have accomplished the change.

Second accomplishment is the filthy, stinky, ciggies 15 weeks without one.
Rehab Doctor has given me the all clear to get back to windsurfing, physically I feel good. The issue I'm having is mentally with the voice inside my head saying "Not yet..! Are you sure.. so I'm guessing a fear issue which I'm trying to overcome. Which is a hard one to accomplish.
Any help and advice will be much appreciated.
Cheers SMS 09.

Congrats mate, big accomplishments.

Take it easy at first, go out on flat water with medium wind, just enough power to easily water start, and user friendly gear.
You don't want to be uphauling, and you don't want to be swimming after a runaway board.

That should help get your confidence back and let you evaluate where you're at.
Have you got wave gear?
I have some you can borrow.
Go and join Fangy in the shallow smooth stuff, you can't come to too much harm there.

Hope to see you on the water soon.

Well done champ keep up the good effort!! Many people don't and rely on the medical system and medication to get them through.

Can you go and have a medically controlled heart stress test (exercise bike style) to help put your mind at rest?

A different analogy but I had a knee recon a few years back and it took me ages to get my confidence up on the water and trust what the surgeon plus rehab had done. It will come back just keep working at it!

Hopefully your strict diet won't cut out the odd frostie or two every now and then!!

If it helps you any in your attempt to quit, a few months ago I started feeling a bit of tightness in my chest, so I thought I would get it checked out. I went to the GP, who at the mention of chest pain referred me to a chest pain clinic, which surprisingly cost me nothing. Way to go Medicare!

When they interview you and ask for background, if you are a non smoker and have no family history of heart attack, they almost concede that a problem is unlikely. Obviously there are other risk factors, but I think the smoking one is a serious one, and you can tell by their language that it is very significant.

Its very sobering lying there on a bed, and hearing the heart problems of the people around you, and in my case, realising that they were not that different in age to me. People having stents fitted when they were my age. Sometimes you get unlucky with the genetics, but smoking just makes it worse.

I was lucky, as they threw me on the treadmill and the results were fine, so they seem to think there is minimal chance of a problem. I felt like a bit of a fraud as everything checked out fine and they still treat it very seriously. I would recommend that if you think you are at risk, take the time and get one of these done. It might set your mind at rest or it might highlight a problem that you have time to fix. For a lot of people its free, so you may as well do it.

Best thing is not to start a convo with the voice in your head.
When it clicks in just tell it to wait 5 minutes and you'll get back to it
Turns out it's got a goldfish memory

Yep a heart stress test, though sadistic is a good way to put your mind at ease within controlled conditions.

Then just baby step's, go out with the rest of the mob and we'll keep an eye on you till you are confident that things are good with your self.

We'll be at Liptons today Stropp may be at Fangies (dependent on tide)

Be good to have the leaner meaner SMS back on the water, The weight loss is going to make a huge difference.

That's right, it's a delaying tactic to get past the cravings. Sometimes the craving only lasts 30 seconds, but if you promise yourself a gasper, it can last hours.

Had shortness of breath and no energy.
August18 saw Cardiologist who sent me for an angiogram as a stress test 12 months before came up OK .
Result was LAD artery ,known as the widowmaker , was 90% blocked.
had stent put in and put on eight months cardio gym twice a week and new diet .
everything is now fine as far as heart concerned and I push to physical limit on Cardio to get heart rate right up there five times a week .
Have you seen a cardiologist?
edit: Sorry that's a stupid question as you know it's a blocked LAD.
If your a bit nervous in pushing the limit talk to your doc about
doing Cardio at a gym where you are supervised until you are confident ,you'll be surprised) I am lucky insofar as the hospital I had the stent put in has a rehab gym. (Wesley)
heres a before and after, scary.
