I suggested somewhere that if Sea-whatsit really wanted to stop whaling they should just sink the Japanese boats. They only got three or four, after all.
Pretty sure Japan will ignore the ruling...
The annoying part about it it they will just go somewhere else. In a sense a great win although it will still continue just out of our eye site ![]()
They'll just have to start on the mountain of frozen meat they've got in reserve till they find the next loophole. Not that anyone is eating the stuff.
Congrats to all including Bob Brown who has reappeared to share in the glory.
The whales are saved, whats next chickens?
^^ How about Great White Sharks?
Let's take Paul Barnett to the ICJ for authorising the killing of Great White Sharks - a protected species.

Sea shepard, Paul Watson are proper environmental heros. They are the equivelent of a real life captain planet.
Now the whales can do what they do best and have a whale of a time.
Do you think that will stop them? I dont.
It should stop them whaling in Australian waters. That is there large scale whaling efforts. They do whale in the the Northern waters and they really can't ramp that up too much.
Having said that if Japan returns to the Southern Ocean in December 2014 SSCS will be their. Also i think it will help polarise more Australians to get behind the cause. Japan has thumbed the Australian government and international courts for years so we will see. But its a huge moral victory and a monstrous step forward![]()

Agreed, but I cant help thinking this a massive buisness for the Japs and they wont just lie down and take it.

It's a **** business that is propped up by a government full of old bastards who think they're the master race and refuse to let old traditions die. They have a hard time selling the meat at the premium prices so mountains of it is in cold store and eventually ends up in public school lunches.
Culture and tradition - just another name for fundamentalist religion.

they are retarded wannabe pirates who endanger life at sea.
if they spent a fraction of the money they con from the public on education and advertising in japan, whaling would have ended long ago. instead they waste millions on attention-grabbing sabotage expeditions.
whaling has proved sustainable- there are plenty of fish populations that are on the brink of extinction from overfishing. this is much more of a problem. but whales are 'cute', or 'majestic' or some other anthropomorphic crap, so they need saving.
cue the red thumbs...

Palm /Face!!
The most likely outcome of all this? The IWC creates a formal description of what "scientific whaling" would actually consist of, then Japan redesigns their programme to comply. And opens the gateway for other naqtions.
Next most likely option - Japan withdraws from the IWC and does whatever they want anyway.
So yeah, it might be good to win, but if the outcome is more whales killed than before, not so good
****
And on a more contraversial note - a well run whaling programme with sustainable take limits is not actually that unreasonable a proposition. A lot of the argument has been about the intelligence of whales - most filter feeders are anything but. How smafrt do you need to be to swim around with your mouth open!
so what seasheperds are going to do if this war is over?
just go home gettin p.t.s.d., drugs and alcohol ?
perhaps they would be the last ones who wanted to end this completely

Sea Shepherd does so much more than you could ever imagine. The whales are a big effort but have you ever seen for instance their work in the Galapagos Islands
The worlds largest marine park and they had little resources to police it.
So SSCS provided, boats, rangers, buildings and offices including look outs. A world class sophisticated radar network to detect poaching vessels. A level team that has helped write the manuals for prosecution of perpetrators. Hell they've even trained and supplied sniffer dogs and handler training to detect illegal catches..
Sea Shepherd has never had a death or even a major injury on board any vessel. They actually were able to search and locate the Distress beacon of a missing ship two years ago, in conditions that forced the NZ navy to turn back.
They run on about 95% of total funds raised goes into direct action campaigns.
Another point that gets raised is they are pirates. Well they only interfere where the laws are not being upheld. Thats why they have never had any charge laid against them stick..Because they are actually operating directly with in the law![]()
Sea Shepherd should head over to the WA coast and continue their good work by fighting our own illogical and unscientific program of indiscriminate killing of protected marine species.

or they can head over to the high seas to pick up all the rubbish that recently been discovered by satellites.
that would be good thing too

The market for whale meat in japan is a shrinking one. Most people in japan dont eat it.
It's the same situation as anywhere else. Those who want it to continue make themost noise so people think everyone wants it.
I think the whole industry will now die a natural death, much as it did forty years ago in australia.
In australias case, the industry simply became uneconomical and I expect that will now happen in japan.
Really good news. Lets hope our government up holds the ban though..![]()
Why wouldn't the Australian government uphold the ban? Australia is the one who went to the International Court of Justice.

Why wouldn't the Australian government uphold the ban? Australia is the one who went to the International Court of Justice.
Because Japan was already breaking Australian sovereign and inetrnational laws. All Australia had to do was uphold the law and they could have moved on the whalers. Thats the main ground SSCS has to operate against the whalers because they were upholding the law in a deficit of any other group. The Australian Government don't want to admit it, but Paul Watson is doing what Australia is too scared to do. If Japan return in December 2014 what will the Australian government do then
Will they go down and uphold the law or will they just let it run like they have done for so long![]()
