I was up there years ago when a guy got taken by a saltie while he was having a night stroll on the beach at Bartalumba Bay.
Rangers shot the croc the next day and left it on the beach while they arranged transport.
Some fishermen staying in the Barta Bay pub's dongas dragged it up to their accom, wanting to skin it.
They got busted for stealing Ranger's property.
When the wildlife mob opened the croc up, they found the victim's Timex wristwatch, still working.
Somebody from Timex's ad agency phoned the widow and wanted to know if they could use it for an advert.
Fishing is great, surfing non-existent. Boredom will drive you nuts quickly.
The "locals" are best avoided, there is a lot of alcohol-fuelled violence and deep resentment against whitey.

Been 20+ years since I was there and it was a pretty feckin freaky place then. Fishing is all time. Crocs were plentiful and very friendly.
Don't pick up the Bailer Shells. They is not friendly.
Sports are all good. But water sports are more adventures and enjoyable.
