Hi
Im foreigner on tourist visa in Australia and would like to buy a small (up to 6 m) boat with max 60 HP.
My questions are:
1. can I register it and insure in Australia?
2. if yes where?
Same questions go for the trailor
Thanks in advance

Dept of transport with transfer papers from purchase
Skippers ticket, reqd
Insurance company, heaps to chose from
You rego your trailer at dept of transport, this includes a statutory insurance, but you can add private insurance
My boat valued replacement cost of $20,000 was around $450 per year insurance plus rego, for both boat n trailer around $300

Registering your boat with the Dept of Transport includes an element of 3rd party damage insurance, but if it gets stolen or sinks you won't be covered. So you'll need to contact QBE, NRMA (if it's in NSW) or another boat insurance company to provide that insurance.
