hello there knowledge bank. This is not a conspiracy thread or discussion on yes or no for it, but simply;
would my fridge filter (water fed through the fridge and cooled) filter out fluoride from the water I'm giving my kids?
i don't believe that the filter would be that effective but I'm not 100% sure?

Why would you want to? Fluoride is a public health measure that saves you spending money on dentists

The short answer is probably not. Fluoride is a difficult mineral to remove and can be done with high end filters (reverse osmosis is the main type but there are other types like deionizers) . I will assume the water filter on your fridge is carbon based would be pretty basic and just remove large particle minerals and chlorine. Your fridge manufacturers like these as they are cheap to make and pretty low maintennance.

Reverse osmosis filters will safely and effectively remove fluoride from water. They also remove other essential minerals so be aware that reverse osmosis water is not ideal if it is your only source of water intake.

Keep the fluoride in the water. Stop propelling stupid rumors.

Will they have to wait until they are over eighteen to drink a soda for the first time? What else you plan blocking from them?

Nothing wrong with bringing kids up with a healthy lifestyle, have you seen the volume of fat ****s around, if you don't give a f..k what your kids eat or drink Then that's your choice

Just to clarify, I don't want the fluoride removed. I want it in the water for my children's positive dental health like it was for me.

I just wanted to check check that because we almost always fill our kids drink bottles from our fridge supply and I want to ensure the fluoride isn't being filtered out.

Pretty much answers my question. Thanks all

My dad gave me flouride tablets as a kid to protect my teeth. They tasted nice

Sadly they seem to have caused penile gigantism.

What about the chlorine? Dissolved metals? They are there too like it or not. Trace metals like iron, copper, nickel, antimony, zinc, arsenic, magnesium etc etc.
What is your mitigation plan for that?

Seriously, travel and see the world. Get out of the shell.

Tap water in Perth is VERY good comparing to most places. Your kids will be fine.

I think diet has a lot to do with, but that said my dentist was shocked that I said I drank a lot of soft drink, as my teeth are relatively good. From what she said, some people just have good saliva, and it helps protect the teeth. I never took too much care of my teeth when I was younger, and I am sure that without Fluoride, I would have much worse teeth.

I think to get a real comparison you need to see a culture with the same sort of food habits that we do that doesn't use Fluoride. I think that would convince you to use Fluoride.

What are you talking about?
I never said they wouldn't be fine?

yes I agree, the tap water is absolutely fine. The only reason I/we drink from the fridge is for the convenience of cold water. Not because I'm worried about the water. I've grown up on Australian tap water.

I grew up on Australian tap beer, nothing wrong with my teeth, but my kidneys, liver and brain now that's a different story
