Hi all, have moved up a rung at work. Need to shave more regularly. Any1 have an electric shaver that has stood the test of time? I'm Weighing up my options.
Philips. I've got a waterproof philishave(?)
The battery doesn"t hold a charge anymore but it's still fine from the mains. Gets a regular workout. Going fairly strong after 18 or so years. Will defo replace it with a similar one if it ever dies. (Touching wood as I type).
Wow, 18 years out of an electric shaver. I'm impressed. I don't reckon I could buy one today that would last that long.

R u baby smooth or coarse grained? Cause being a little coarse dramatically reduces your chances of satisfaction
I've got a waterproof Panasonic. Going well after approx 2-3 yrs. Water proof etc. Ordered on Amazon when the exchange rate was good, but could still be a cheaper option.
Had a Braun and got sick of buying a new foil every couple of years. Every time it busted it was a month to get a new one (in the country). Even if I lived in the big smoke it would still be a few days before I could get to a department store
Went to blade shaving again until I could get to the shop to buy a new foil - that was about 5yrs ago 
I realised it is just as fast to use a disposable like Mach3, one blade lasts a week at least
I use good old clippers, $18 from big W, will last many more years. No plastic (ie No 3) on the end gives a pretty close shave, leaves 1mm stubble. Mows my face in about 1 minute, looks pretty neat without being clean shaven, and I can skip a few days but if you did it every day it might be neat enough.
The key is to go to your job interview with a beard / stubble, and maintain. If you start clean shaven you set up expectations

Pretty coarse cal. I've got the el cheapo clippers and they work well for that neat stubble look. Was hoping to get a little closer tho. Cheers.
I have pretty coarse grained whiskers, but they sit at an angle so they're not all that well suited to electric shavers. I am a touch obsessive about being well shaved. I think you get the best results from electric shavers if your whiskers stand up straight and are moderately stiff.
I use a fairly high end Philips washable, rechargeable rotary shaver. I am on my second one in 20-odd years. The battery lasts for ages on a charge. I changed the blades once because they were cheap from the Shaver Shop.
I usually do a quick shave with the electric and that makes my face presentable. That might be all I do if we're away for the weekend.
When I shower I do a quick final shave with a Mach 3 blade and soap. That gets to a smooth finish and knocks off anything I missed during the electric shave.
I shave by touch because that's the only way to find those stray rough patches.
It's fairly quick and easy to do and gives me an excuse to loiter in the shower for a couple of minutes longer. Because it's just a quick shave the Mach 3 blades last a month-6 weeks easily.
Phillips "arcitec" rechargeable ,Battery lasts about 5 shaves before needing recharge.
Had it 5 years now and its Great Shaver
shaving gives me the s***s. I do it oncea week and use a beard thingo from shavers r us or something like that. It was a US model. it broke on the first day. they swapped it out no questions. (i was actually a bit rough changing the bits) This one hasn't faulted. 12 months now.
For longevity, oil it after every shave and they should last a long long time

Tell me you do not use it under the shower connected to the main????? 
By the way you can get that fixed by sending it to a Phillips repair center at a fraction of the cost of a new one, did it to mine.
Yep, for the coarse ppl nothing beats a blade and easily as quick, if not quicker. I have been happy with my Philips trimmer, motor and battery wise seems to be a better brand IMHO.

Philips slower but not comparable due to the style of cutting. Good for a heavy whisker, but crap if you get sensitive skin.
Pana covers all bases. Avoid Remington. They break too often.

All shavers take more than a month to get used to. So be patient coming from a blade.

My 2 c worth - almost the exact opposite of BJW!!?
I have a major dislike of any shaver that is not sharp and doesn't do the job quickly and efficiently (being a Peter Garrett sort of guy).
Panasonic - the one I had revved to 14,000 but my experience was that it had no torque so any heavy whisker just seemed bog it down - got rid of it - the guy at the shaver shop said they are best for light whiskers so I am surprised by BJW's comment
Philips - haven't tried
Braun foil - didn't like it - went through $70 foils every 3 months - v. expensive exercise and overall poor performance
My current drive is a Remington R7130 rotary with the diamond blades - does the business
- been going strong for 4 years now - battery still lasts 45 mins (originally 60 when new)
- the diamond blades are fantastic if you can get hold of them - I oil them every 30 mins or so and I can get around a year of sharp cutting - all for $70 a pop
Otherwise I am partial to bic single blade or gillette 2 blade disposables - cheapest shaving there is - but my wife complains about the mess in the bathroom?
I am on my second Philips rotary head shaver, cannot fault them.
The second one was only purchased as the blades where getting a little blunt after 18 years of use.
Istead of buying new places I wanted to treat myself to a more upto date one.
The second one is going strong.
Do not think you can go wrong with a Philip's, I will buy another, in about 10 years

^^^ This! Electric shavers just don't do the job. Has to be a wet shave every time. And if you can take your time, it can be quite meditative.
If you hate shaving... (and I do)... grow a short goatee.
Half your face doesn't need shaving - the hard part to shave.
The easy bits are left - for them, go down Kiteboy Daves route and mow it with clippers.
For me, shave monday and Wednesday only - by friday you're looking just the right side of "dress down Friday" scruffy for the office and relaxed enough for the pub Friday night.
