Just before midday local time, a member of the public spotted the 16 and 17-year-old boys caught in a rip current in rough seas off Lennox Head, a beach popular with surfers about 750 kilometres (466 miles) north of Sydney.
A Westpac Little Ripper Lifesaver droe was quickly launched and directed to the boys' location, where it deployed a life raft then used by the pair to get back to safety. Oh no, a training session/drill was being conducted when a real time incident arose, no doubt initiated by the "evil ones" who were peddaling the device in order to obtain another 'squillion dollars in sales, the same people who for the first time in living memory had 'skipped' their morning surf at Lennox Head, thus avoiding becoming victims of the 'man made' rip, straight to heavy weather, tis, I fear, a conspiracy in the making! ![]()
No seriously a good result, if the technology is available then use it, these two youngsters were lucky not to have become statistics and two families have been saved the heartbreak. Bravo to all involved!
Hopefully coming soon to beaches all over the country.

Where was the thermite?
Looks like they were quietly treading water and being pushed back to shore by the swell. It's still a good way to rescue people.
Its the best surf rescue device ever thought of.It has proven & saved two lifes so far.every popular surf beach should have one.
be cool if it could drop a small explosive next to sharks to scare them off when sighted. not enough to hurt em but a gentle message to piss off.
