Check out this link, which is only from this year:

Who knew that we were short of beef farmers!

We are even short of stockbroker dealers. Go figure. One of many high paying jobs which apparently Australians aren't able to come to the party for.

Is this just BS? I look at this list and I can only see employers wanting cheap temporary workers. I thought the 457 system was scrapped, but I guess this new system is just the same except the employees can't automatically get PR.

Are we being screwed over in Australia? What jobs are safe from cheap sources if some bureaucrat just creates a list to allow cheap workers to come here?

I work in IT, and looking that list, there are jobs there that I did when I was fresh out of university and any reasonable graduate can do them. What are those graduates doing instead? Serving coffee?

There was a similar article on SMH crying about the founders of Atlassian cannot get certain skills so they want to import them. Sadly, the skills they quote as unavailable are quite simple and easy to get if you just pay the right amount, or heaven forbid, train people up.

Another article said that the old 457 visa workers only account for under 1% of our 12 million workforce. Keep in mind that workforce covers all types of employment, including temporary and casual, and there is next to no chance 457 visa holders are working in casual jobs. So, what does that mean? That means that there is something less than 120,000 people from overseas working in skilled occupations that your kids won't be able to work in.

Fair?

No it's not fair. However when immigration is controlled by the State and the State makes decisions benefitting it's friends then what can you expect?

Short Term Skilled Occupation List

Come, the ****, on.

Those lists look more like a list off every skill possible. I've never seen a list of skills so long.
