Cricket was invented to make tennis look interesting.

I'm totally with you on this one man!

Give me four slips and a gully for some real cricket. If you nick it you're out and a cover drive is four runs, not the other way around as it is in the abbreviated version of the game.

I Only like 20 20. Time is an expensive commodity I have little of.

Any form of pyjama cricket is barely watchable. Give me the subtle nuance, twists and turns of a test match any day.

Big bash is the name of the competition.
T20 is the format they play I.e. 20 overs per team.
Not my cup of tea though.
Much prefer the traditional 5 day tests.

As a matter of interest I was at a Sports Law conference in Brisbane last year and the Integrity Commissioner for Sport in India was there and he told the audience that more money in bet on one Australian Big Bash game than all the money spent betting on AFL in one season. The Indians love their cricket and watch the Big Bash avidly and place most of the bets. About $500 Million per game.

Very insightful observation. I'd never thought of it like that, but you totally right!

While you are on the subject what is that Fast4 tennis all about ?

I didn't really get it. It just seemed like normal tennis but less of it.

T20 is a different version of the same game
Ruby sevens is a different version of the same game
Five-a-side football is a different version of the same game
Beach Volley ball is a different version of the same game

Fast4 tennis seemed to be the same game, just first to 4 games not first to 6 games, so just a rip off really for the ticket buying spectator who just sees less of exactly the same thing.

How are the tactics different ?

I understand how you play Ruby sevens, or 5-a-side or T20 cricket with different tactics and different skill sets, but Fast4 seemed to be exactly the same, just less of it.

I guess it may be attractive to the semi-amateur or something not wanting to play a full game in the same way that Sheffield Shield is 4 days not 5 days, but how is that then attractive to the audience watching the top names in a top competition ?

If you want a "T20" version of tennis don't you have to make it so it requires different tactics ? Don't people want to see long rallies and tension filled points ? So maybe, say, a bigger court and a slower ball and a limited racket string tension or something so you get longer rallies with more running about but then have less points required to win ? or maybe a different serve so it becomes more about the rally and less about 7 foot giants serving massive aces ?

Or did I miss something more subtle in it ?

Yeah - it should be Short4 Tennis.

It is just Ch9 trying to get in on the tennis thing (have been shut out by Ch7 etc) by having exhibition matches.
Paying overpaid tennis players even more money

Dont get fast4at all, dont see how it will survive.

I get how they got to T20 and in theory support it, but in reality I feel they have simply damaged to spectacle of the one day game. Really it doesnt matter what we think though, cause if it is cricket and it works in India, we are stuck with it!

My understanding of fast4 tennis - I've heard and read a few things through work. It's main purpose is to be introduced at local clubs. Aim is to provide a shortened version so that people can commit the time to play. Same problem golf has, people with families struggle to commit 4-5 hrs on a sat to play sport. The thing that was on tv was just the launch for Tennis Aus.

in saying that, no doubt ch9 will try to make a buck from it.

Don't worry, in a similar way that the Mars bar has gradually decreased in size, a stubbie will probably be 150ml in the near future.
