4-30 am today I get a knock on the door. I do not open and ask who is there. A woman claiming to be my neighbour from downstairs.
I open the door.
'ive never done this before but could I please borrow 25 dollars for my teenage daughter for her school'.
I gave her the money and she said she will return it on Thursday and continued with more of her ramble about how her daughter needs it for her school.
It is only the second time in the 5 years I have lived here I have spoken to her.
She is far from your average bogan sort that lives in these parts 
ive got to know her well after hearing her discussions with her husband from my balcony.
After a few minutes I got to thinking 25 dollars is an odd amount to ask. Then I remembered she chain smokes in her courtyard especially in the early hours of the morning when her husband is not around.
10 minutes passed and I heard a flyscreen door open or close from downstairs. Obviously her returning from Spudshed with her addiction in hand
My mate was once addicted to hard drugs and alcohol and reckons cigarettes was the hardest of the three to give up. I do not doubt it anymore.
Can you still buy a pack for $25 ??? I hope not, make them $500 a pack.
maybe she already got more money from other neighbor's as well.
I doubt you could buy a packet of smokes for $25 now .
