The local Mayor is telling people not to be scared off, because it's NOT a one-off, they have been there before, and they only affect the northern end of the camping area. Then tell me, why the heck are they letting people camp in that section if there is a known history of sink holes there? If it had been at 3am with everyone in their sleeping bags, instead of 10pm with everyone sitting around camp fires, there could have been a large number of people killed.
