That was intense. If that guy wasn't the reason I swim in freezing water in winter I might have tuned out.
Thanks for sharing.
Can't wait to try this on the wife, see if it helps her sleep

The buteyko breathing method has been credited with curing athsma in many. And with the amount of caeser deliveries depriving kids of that birth canal lung workout, keeping it simple is not working for many.

Just for context, one woman has eighteen pregnancies. Two are ceaser, those two non consecutive are asthmatic, none of the others are.

Got to 4mins and he'd done nothing but what looked like normal breathing just way too fast to be relaxing...?

If you can't sleep, have a pull. Worked for centuries.

Strewth I'd get a headspin if I tried to sleep breathing like this.

Pretty funny to imagine people actually giving it a crack through

Just to add confusion to your theory, consider this.

Current thinking suggests that exposure to faeces in a normal birthing process can lead to a kid getting bacteria from their mother and thus help the bacterial load of their stomach and lead to better health. There are suggestions of faecal transplants helping adults that have some health problems, and at least in some cases it has shown to work.

The suggestion is that a caesar birth avoids this contamination and actually deprives the kid of the natural bacteria that would otherwise help it, and I think astha is one of those things that they think are affected.

Caesar away, just make them eat..

Been practicing WHM for 1.5 years now. It's totally awesome and has various benefits... Doing WHM breathing regularly helps manage stress levels and induces relaxation - which we do'nt get enough of in the overwhelmingly busy and packed western lifestyle.

However if you have serious sleeping issues, it will take more than just a breathing technique to get on top of that... like lifestyle changes, diet, gut, daily habbits etc etc... It's very easy for some people to say have a wank and you'll sleep. It's not that simple though... as everyone is wired differently genetically. For some people it takes a lot more effort and discipline to master the art of sleeping...

I will be sensible now.

I have always been shown relaxation breathing that is in and out slowly. Exhale is twice as long as the inhale.
This method is really fast and sounds like you're trying to get dizzy, not relaxed. Can someone explain it to me ?

Not sure but I think it is to get maximum oxygen in blood. I normally hold my breath for a minute. Did this last night held breath for 1.5 minutes easily and the same time on the exhale breath holds. With practice would be helpful for hold downs maybe. If I could hold breath for longer would feel more confident. 5 mins would be great.

The fast breathing is the first part of the first stage. Try devoting 11 minutes of your life to the whole experience. I found it worthwhile.

you gotta go watch his podcasts, or do a workshop. They are totally awesome. Not to mention the retreats - one of the best experiences of my life. Climbed Kosciouzco in shorts only in winter/snow and swam in snow freezing rivers. But there are couple variations of the WHM breathing. The most common one is 3-4 sets of 30-40 inhales and exhales (you pick the tempo you are comfortable with), and on last exhale hold your breath as long as you can without forcing it, then repeat. Each next set you will be able to hold longer. It's not a competition though, only purpose is to relax. But people have recorded 8 minute holds. (i managed 3:45 once)

Point of breathing is - yes to get you bit dizzy - but it's filling up blood with oxygen and performing controlled hyperventilation. This exercises your respiratory systems on daily basis, and [-- insert long and detailed scientific banter here--] activates your parasympathetic nervous system. Parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for calming your body and fighting stress. If you do it properly you will feel on high... yet it's simply being high on oxygen instead of drugs. (It's awesome - and i'm not even a hippie).
This method is highly effective if you suffer anxiety... or prone to stress... The next level is when you do breathing sets, and after exhaling on breath hold do pushups... now that's something totally insane. Allows you to push your body beyond what you ever though possible.
