Mum lives in QLD and would like to use a photo sharing site so my kids can upload photos to for 'Grandma' to view. She will view from her computer and the kids can upload from their mobile/iPad.
It would need to be private with log in username.
Any tips ?

I've been using Dropbox for years both as cloud storage and for file sharing with friends / family. Works well for me

Good for files, not as good for pics if you want previews etc. Flikr is the one made for pics. Has apps for android/apple as well as web access.

Personally I'd use Picasa - it's free, when you install it finds every pic on the computer (watch out!?!) you tell it to import from camera whenever you plug it in, you can perform basic fast editing (straighten horizon, "i feel lucky" to fix red eye, brightness, contrast in 1 hit) then pick the ones you want and hit 'upload to picasa web album'.

Can use free app https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/photo-sync-free-for-picasa/id473143338?mt=8 to manage picasa albums on ipad etc.

I've been using Flickr and cant really fault it.
You get a free terabyte of storage so you shouldn't ever run out of space.

Ive used Flickr, Its easy to use too. But I tend to shove lots of photos on facebook. Real friends dont mind seeing your kids. Ive got relatives in QLD and NSW who never get to see my kids except for facebook. Flickr is really good though.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Remember Grandma is not too tech savy and is proud to have mastered her inbox over the past few years.
I went down the FB trail a couple of years ago but was too hectic to explain.
I agree that Drop box is best for files but not photos.
I got the Flickr app then when setting up it asked for my yahoo mail address.
I need something basic and similar to iPhoto to click onto albums to open up.

The obvious choice would be Instagram, she would just click on Instagram link and see the kids photo feed (after she is set up which you could do for her at your end).

Kids are on iPad, if grandma is on apple too then iCloud is the obvious choice. You create an album, send an invite to people, and then any new photos you add to the album come up as notifications on their apple devices. That's it.

You don't need to create a separate album specifically for sharing but I recommend it. My sister didn't and learnt the hard way.

Yep. But will they want her seeing all their pics Also what's App does a good job as well. Easy to share pics n when she clicks on them they can download to an album for her. Best thing is she gets a beep on her phone when they arrive and you can have multiple people on the chat all following. Means you can watch over as well. My mum loves it.

Your kids could have dedicated Instagram accounts for sharing with granny. Instagram would probably be the easiest option for your mum, I'm not sure about the ability to save photos.

Communication technology for family groups is awesome now days.
