I'm one... (an Apple Watch Retard!)

At first... I just wanted to start tracking steps, track a little exercise, and that crap...
Turns out, the pre-loaded exercise tracking stuff isn't all that good....

Can you guys give me some quick recommendations... It's such a smart arse watch, what App do I need...

For Surfing - should I use the Nike App, or is there something better??? (I'll repeat, I'm an Apple Watch Retard! - and probably could have bought an Android thing instead - but I will persist will Apple for now... But give me some Andriod options too...) !!!

Golf - which App ... Someone said the damn watch can count every stroke on its own... Even putting... I don't believe it... but anyway...

But I'm more interested in a better surfing exercise tracker...

.... OK - unload on me, for being a d!ck, and buying an apple watch... but admins might take a look, so don't be too harsh! LoL!
(I did have a whack load of Comm Bank Rewards Points for Myer, and I only had to pay $250 gap - as I don't think they are worth north of 500 smacks!)...

Strava on Apple watch ok

Garmin Fenix are better activity tracker and you can put it all into Strava

Watch the straps I have lost 2 Apple watches in the surf

I'm not worried about losing it, I mainly surf in long sleeves... Long Sleeve Springy, or a Steamer...
So that is a plus! Oh, I have the velcro one, and it always stays in a "circle"... The end can't slide through...

It seems the Apple watch activities are main stream.
I was impressed that a mate had the 4g or LTE version so you can take a work call if your doing fun activities.
I now work for myself and want waterproof LTE smartwatch but I'm an Android person. I've had Apple 6S as work phone previously but not fan of I tunes as you can't map to external hard drive for storage or its a PIA!
In NZ it looks like Samsung Frontier S3 LTE as otherwise I'm stressing out on missing work calls! Yes I will look like a "wanker" but the trade off for better work life balance.

Surfing: dawn patrol
kitesurfing: Waterspeed
mtb: strava

Got it as a gift and didn't expect to use it for tracking. There are better watches for that. Can't use the touch screen with wet fingers.

But, used it almost every session for about a year now and find it pretty interesting. More of a journal than anything else. Almost lost the watch surfing maxing Ekas, somehow managed to grab it as it was ripped off my wrist (Nike Velcro strap). No dramas under a wetty though.

Surfing stats Year to date:
416 waves total
40.1 km distance travelled
1hr 39mims wave time

So averaging 100m per wave and about 15 seconds per wave (24km/h. I know for a fact that not every wave is counted. Seems deep thick barrels doesn't lend well to good gps signal!!!!. Jokes aside, wonder how apple is using my data?

So you can take a work call if your doing fun activities ... call me old fashioned but that has to be the most depressing thing I've heard all week . People work sooo hard to be able to go on holiday to get away from it all and then check their devices every five minutes . Shoot me now if I become that person .
Here's me calling the kettle black while writing this .

Hi Imax1,

I've started my own business and working from home. My last employer was a NZ company but was brought by American company where expected to work longer and always answer work phone.
With daylight saving over my last two windsurfing sessions, the wind was good early afternoon but gets gusty later. My partner does lawns so we did go surfing during day for quick hour.
Smartwatch can give me freedom to go windsurfing in middle of day, surf as long as want without feeling guilty or missing important calls and emails and catch up on work later.
Life is too short, work to live not live to work

All good Imax1, everyone different situation.
Last year when still working for other company we went to Rarotonga for partners 50th. No phone roaming for work phone, that was awesome to shut off.
Last Friday most kiwis and Aussies had annual leave holiday after ANZAC day so was out sailing cat with mate, just coming in at 5 pm when his phone rings and guy wanting to look at rental space that he has people lining up and wants him to go back to his work, "sorry mate will ring you Monday ".

Rubber Jungle on Gold Coast apparently make a cover to protect it in surf.

Apple are actually really good with your data. The best.

Messages, for example, offer end-to-end encryption. Maps breaks your route up into chunks before scrambling. Actually everything is encrypted, and even Apple can't see it.

Apple doesn't keep, or sell your data. At all.

Keeping and selling your data is all Google does. It's their entire business model. Windows has targeted ads now.

Stop resisting and join us Apple-tards in the future. (hats off to linux-tards)
