Hi has anyone had recent experience traveling with gear on Qantas? I am flying Christchurch to Sydney and want to take 1 sail bag with mast and have got a ticket with 30 kgs checked luggage, plane is a 737. Total length is about 2.2m and about 8 Kgs.Looking at their website it seems hard to work out if they will carry it.I have never had a problem with Virgin . Cheers.

Thats a small and light plane;).

Give them a ring if its under the total weight it might just go as oversize luggage.

The issue with length is the cargo carriers - big ali boxes that are loaded on the plane...

Pretty sure they don't use those on 73s... Only bigger planes...

Ha Ha, grab a coffee, some lunch, a good book and a place to lay your head, Ive waited over 45min for their arse headed consultants to respond, and then they didnt know (or care-it wasn't their dept)
Did you book on line or through an agent, if agent get them to sort it, if not still go to agent they should be good for advice
