Young up-and-comer: Mo Frietas can CARVE!

Mo Frietas holding on tight at Pipeline
Some of his most impressive results include a 7th place on the 32mile Molokai crossing, 1st in the Huntington Beach Pro and 1st at the Battle of the Paddle Juniors in California.

This teenage paddler grew up in Hawaii and quickly gained sponsorship from Body Glove once he started stand up paddling, he’s now paddling custom Rawson boards and making waves in the surf scene with his powerful style and flawless technique.

His name is Mo Frietas, and some have tipped him to take over from Kai Lenny once Kai gets too old.

This multi talented kid has been spotted taking on Pipeline when it’s way overhead, he’s come back in the Elite division of the Paddle and still paddled his way into fourth place too, he’s a racer and a surfer. Oh and he can surf and freedive to cap it off.

We love his style because it’s so so hard. Cutbacks and hacks like these are only possible with some serious skill and a narrow board. Which has caught lots of attention after this video below was released, namely because the boards are only 23” wide! The stand up paddle board, a custom Rawson/Focus shape is fence pailing narrow at 8'1x23” with his the other ones being 6'11” and 7'2 x23” with different outlines, bottom, tails and rails.

Also interesting about Mo and his clips, is how big the brand of Body Glove is in the US!

Sold in Australia only at K-Mart, and seriously lacking in street cred, this once huge brand in Australia seemed to die a harsh death in the early 2000’s. All the while, over in the US, they’re sponsoring major riders, developing industry leading technology and pumping out media worthy tens of thousands of Facebook shares. Interesting! Will they return to surf shop shelves here in Australia?

Check out the video below to see what we mean, Mo Frietas hacks, slashes and punts his way around this Hawaiian break.
