Wood is for burning...Timber is for crafting... SUP Paddle

Made in the back shed!
Gone are the days where home made paddles consist of a broom stick and a plastic plate bolted to the bottom. Things are gettin' serious!

Take a look at the paddle adjacent, made by Anton Fourie from Freshwater, NSW. It's a work of art! Worthy of the poolroom, and only the most careful of stand up paddlers in the water, it just goes to show that SUP really is something beautiful when it inspires work such as this.

Other, more mass produced Stand up paddling equipment is turning back to the wooden look this year. Just take a look at the NP bamboo paddles, which are essentially a carbon blade and shaft, with a thin bamboo layer over the top for looks and an authentic feel.

Fanatic released a version of their Fly Race this year with the 'Clear Wood' edition. Featuring a few different types of timber in the laminate, it looks like a masterpiece in the water. But would you paddle it?

That's the age old question when it comes to beautiful pieces of equipment like this, does it get put on a wall and shown off for years to come, or do you throw it on the car and paddle it like you stole it?

What would you do? And do you like the way SUP is going back to nature with the wooden looks? Have your say, and check out some more pics of this amazing wooden paddle in the stand up padding forums.
