The next big thing in Stand Up Paddle? V Drive by DK and JT

The next big thing? Or just another 'thing'.
We hear about the ‘next big thing’ all the time. From the weird bent paddle shafts, to special cutouts and vent holes in boards, technological advances in equipment come in all kinds of shapes and sizes in the bid to be ‘that thing’ that changes the sport forever.

But, when Mr Dave Kalama and Jim Terrell rock up with something new, the stand up paddling community pricks their ears in one collective motion. Could this be the next BIG thing?

It’s called a V Drive, and it’s a funky shaped paddle blade that’s been designed by stand up paddling greats, Dave Kalama and Jim Terrell. This week a video emerged of Kalama talking about how he think’s its better than a normal blade, and also a little about how it works. We’ll leave the explaining to the guys from Quickblade, who say:

“This new concept spearheaded by Dave Kalama is now the latest paddle from Quickblade. Featuring a new dihedral edge and a deep scoop on the blade itself, the paddle is designed to grab more water and give paddlers more strength as they take each stroke. We have been working for over a year on this paddle and we are very excited to finally see this new concept come off the production line.”

According to Quickblade, they’ll have the new V Drive paddle in their dealers hands by December (how convenient, just in time for Christmas!) so once some paddlers get their hands on these things the world will see just how great they are. Who knows, there’s might be an upset at the next Stand Up World Tour Event with someone sweeping the floor because of a new paddle blade!

Find out whether this paddle blade is the next big thing, or just another fad that will fade into oblivion by the time Christmas comes around. Stay tuned!
