The River Race 2011 - Stand Up Paddling on the Woronora.
The Coreban River Race is this Sunday!
is happening this weekend on the Woronora River, south of Sydney. Hosted by Coreban and the Cronulla/Sutherland SUP Club, the racing starts at 7.30am on the 3rd of April - and it's looking to be pretty massive.
Providing a gorgeous backdrop for the days action is the Woronora river. This network of rivers links in with the Georges River, and has proven to be the perfect location for Stand Up Paddle racing. The first of its kind, the Coreban River Race is the first of many racing events to be held in the south Sydney. The Cronulla/Sutherland Stand Up Paddling club has worked tirelessly to get this event off the ground, so please show them some support!
Entry is $45 each paddler, which includes a free tee-shirt and entry to the prize draw. If you want to enter multiple divisions you'll need to cough up an extra $25 for each division you'd like to enter. Remember you need to wear a leash for all events, including the fun ones.
There's plenty of divisions to race in, and everything from 14 foot race boards down to 8 foot surf boards are acceptable for entry. Divisions include 14" & 12'6" restricted events for the serious racers. Family, junior and handicap races for the not so serious, and a Le-Mans style race for a bit of both. Every competitor gets a free t-shirt and entry to the prize draw - so there's no excuse not to enter.
A new event - the handicap racing is sure to turn a few heads. Every competitor will compete on an even level, with their handicap depending on a range of factors like age, weight, board length and whether you're a guy or girl. This allows 60 year olds to compete with 20 yr old hot shots, on an even playing field. Wait 'till you see the photos from the finish - it's going to be insane with everyone coming in around the same time.
After the action, head to the Woronora RSL club over the road for drinks and the presentation.
