Rottnest Island in Western Australia is a pretty special place. Not only is it ideal for stand up paddling, kiteboarding and windsurfing, it’s an incredible sanctuary for marine life big and small.

So when Fanatic team rider Gabi Steindl had the chance to hang out on Rottnest Island for the day, she grabbed all the toys she could and stepped aboard ‘Concorde’, a 13m powerboat operated by Charter 1, to have one of the best stand up paddling experiences of her life.

They kiteboarded, they swam, they jumped off the boat and of course they stand up paddled, but as Gabi tells on her blog:

“The absolute highlight of the day for me was when we bumped into a great bunch of seals…. Snorkelling with those super cute creatures and later on hanging out with them on my SUP was an experience I will never forget in my life.”

New Zealand Fur Seals are one of Rottnest Islands biggest attractions, they hang out super close to the beach feeding on fish and small birds. When humans are around, the seals are pretty inquisitive, often coming right up to tourists and checking them out. That’s what seems to be the case with Gabi and her stand up paddle board, which also makes for some incredible photos!
