Despite the fact there’s probably still some lingering hangovers, the Merimbula Classic is over for another year, and as usual was one of the best weekends you could ever have on a SUP.

Thanks the Merimbula Sailboard Club, the Merimbula Classic has been going for the past 33 years running! Of course stand up paddling hasn’t quite been around that long, but ever since people started standing up on boards, the sport has in some way or another been included in the event.

It’s one of those events that will always be a standout in the Aussie competitive scene. The laid back style of the event, and the near cult following from all board sports makes it truly unique. That's why people come from all over Australia (and sometimes the world) to drink beer, eat from the legendary barbecue and sup, surf, kite or sail until they're red raw. Then they all go to the pub. It's as traditional as Australia day, and that's why we love it.

“We had plenty of waves for the SUPs, lots of wind early on, some heavy duty storms, a sting-ray attack, mad parties, lovely ladies, plenty to eat, we won the golf, we won the footie, we won the cricket. Yes folks … there IS a god ! ?And Adrian Roper reckons we can easily thrash the All-Blacks, ho ho 100% YES ?For a sporting-mad nation, this weekend proved “We are the champions, my friend.” But before we get too cocky about these wins, we must never forget that “gratitude is the attitude" and the great surf-god Kahuna is the dude who really rules The Merimbula Classic… “

Did you catch all that? As usual the event was blessed with great waves, good vibes and plenty of prizes for every competitor. Thanks to the sponsors, the riders and of course the team who manned the BBQ and made the whole event possible.
