Tasmanian Winter SUP Classic - Shortest day of the year

Might 'ave been cold, but they had a great time...
On the shortest day of the year, a small group of stand up paddlers assembled on the shores of Scamander, Tasmania.

They were there for one of the most talked about SUP events of the year, the Tasmanian Winter Classic and State titles. We can prove it was one of the most talked about, because there's 11 pages of forum banter to sift through!

Enjoying an east coast low that was pumping swell down the Tassie coast, the paddlers slashed, carved and threw buckets all day until finally there was one man standing atop the (metaphorical) podium as the new Tasmanian SUP champion.

Shayne Clark from Surfing Tasmania tell the story best:

"Courtney Dalton ran riot on his bright red 10kg carbon high performance board with a full repertoire of power moves and great wave selection from his first heat to win the final in style. Dalton wins the Tassie Title but is not eligible to represent Tasmania in the National Championships at Currumbin in November. Selection for that position and others will be decided over the next few weeks."

There was also some flat water action, and while the guys all looked toasty and warm their dry suits and wettys, there was one little figure that stood out from the crowd. One of the competitors sons braved the 3 degree outside temperature to compete amongst the guys, and apparently he gave them a run for their money!

Check out the full list of results below, and for all the hilarious comments, reports and pictures you can read through the forum thread here in the stand up paddling forums.
