Surprise Surprise! Jetty to Jetty SUP Race Video
That's not going to win you any races Kai!
Well, they couldn't really do that because that would be unfair. But then again, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. Finishing in a blistering time and leading right from the very start, Kai Lenny won the race by a good margin, followed closely by Paul Jackson from the Gold Coast. Paul's no stranger to paddling in Kai's wake, he's competed in big name events like the Molokai to Oahu in Hawaii, and pretty much every Aussie race there's every been!
Conditions for the racing were perfect, with a light breeze blowing and small runners to ease the strain on competitors. Spectators lined the beach too which is great for the sport, and a tribute to Onboard who organised the race.
The guy who filmed and edited the video below said it was a very quick race:
"Well done to those that competed, what a great day. Sorry I didnt get much racing, by the time the race had started and I jumped in my car, got to the finish line, Kai and Jacko were 200 metres from the final marker."
All three of the guys on the podium were pretty close actually, with Steve Morrison bringing up the rear behind Kai and Paul. It's not every day you can say you almost had Kai Lenny in a race! It was a very tough ask to beat him though, just look at the start in the video below to see how fast Kai gets into the water and takes a commanding lead. That's why he's world champ though!
