Starboard Paddle for Hope raises money for Breast Cancer
It’s on again! New Zealand’s Auckland Viaduct harbor will be swarmed by a sea of pink stand up paddlers when they participate in the Starboard Paddle for Hope on the 2nd of November.
“Our goal is to raise $100k for The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation to fund a clinical study and development of a stand up paddle rehabilitation program for people recovering from breast cancer.”
Last year was an incredible event with paddlers quite literally covering the harbor in a sea of pink. There was races, clinics, dress up events and a full on festival on the beach, so this year organizers decided to make it even bigger! You can even win a trip to Hawaii thanks to Hawaiian Airlines, but lets not forget the real winners here, which will be the hundred of women (and men) with breast cancer, who might just get the opportunity to take part in a stand up paddling program to assist with their treatment.
“The event will take place from 11am-4pm on the Karanga Plaza and steps leading down to the water, in Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter. There’ll be live music, DJs, dancers, SUP Yoga on the steps and have-a-go paddle sessions before the big teams relay SUP race around the Western Viaduct Basin, followed by more singing, dancing, live charity auction and prize giving from 4pm at Marvel Grill. NZ R&B Artist Erakah, and also Queenstown group the Sequin Sisters will entertain you live, while DJs will keep the beats working all day alongside special guest MCs. Prizes for winning teams, best costumes, best sports, best picture moments, top fundraisers and more.”
Sounds like it’s going to be a huge event, so get on board, chip in some cash to our mates from New Zealand and help raise money to fund this Breast cancer rehabilitation program and research.
