Stand up paddling the Murray - 25 days into the journey
I spy... Something beginning with G... Gumtrees!
Today, the challenge was to stand up paddle through 'the choke', which is a narrow section of the river where supposedly; the current runs thick and fast, and the river narrows to just a few meters across. Turns out it was much of a non-event - the boys even had to ask a local if they were actually in the right place. They were really looking forward to a challenge too - a change from the usual glassy water and gum tree lined shoreline they're used to seeing.
Over the last few weeks there's been several great moments for the two - the occasional wipeout due to submerged logs (all caught on camera of course) and a never ending list of ways to use their stand up paddling equipment for totally unrelated tasks. Like using your paddle blade to flip blueberry pancakes for instance; don't bother trying it though - apparently it just mashes them up.
So how far are they? Well, they're almost level with a little town called Cohuna, which is in between Echuca and Swann hill. No idea where that is? Don't worry, lets just say they're about a third of the way there - which is spot on Pauls prediction for a 90 day long trip.
Along the way, Paul and Terry have also been writing a fantastic little blog on their website www.supthemurray.com, subscribe to their RSS feed for the latest updates on the trip, or simply stay tuned to Seabreeze and we'll bring you the highlights.
