Stand up paddling pics from the Merimbula Classic 2011
Classic Merimbula conditions from the lookout.
Now Merimbula isn't known for it's epic swell, it's definitely not in the same league as Duranbah or Snapper on a good day. But it does get a few little bumps rolling in now and again which are perfect for stand up paddling. Think 1-3 foot peelers that break over crystal blue water and clean white sand, plenty of room and a peanut gallery up on the lookout who never seem to miss a great ride.
That's not for everyone though, some would prefer a 6 foot barreling freight train to show off their Stand up paddling skills. For these people, just behind the beach at Ford Oval there's always some action going on. Whether it's the barbecue (manned 12 hours a day by the Merimbula Sailboard club) or some kind of bike powered blender - you'll hear fits of laughter erupting from one camp or another, usually it's got something to do with JB and his cronies from Fanatic (Formerly WindGenuity and co.) and this year was no exception.
Check out the photo's of the off water stand up paddling action below, and check out the thread in the stand up paddling forums for more on water pictures.
