Stand Up Paddling at the Australia Surf Festival
Messy conditions didn't put a dampener on the festivities at the Australian surf festival this week; with the stand up paddling finals being held in a messy 3-5 foot swell. Despite the stormy skies and sloppy waves, competitors put on a great show for the spectators down in Port Macquarie, NSW.
At the end of the day, the QLD boys stole the show, with the first 3 paddlers coming from the sunshine state. Justin Holland, Jackson Close and Keahi De Aboitiz came first, second and third respectively, which should make for an interesting Merimbula classic in November, where the NSW crew will surely be itching get them back.
The girls put on an equally good show, with Shakira Westdorp beating Emma Webb and Jenny Ryan for the title. In the challenging conditions the girls were struggling to catch waves, in fact during the second heat, there was only 6 waves caught between the 4 girls!
The Australian Surf festival wraps up in a couple of days, but check out the video below of the SUP action!
