Stand Up Paddle Board Fishing catches on in QLD
The current leader of the competition!
Ocean Addicts at Maroochydore posted on their Facebook page this week that they now have a scoreboard for fish caught from a SUP board. The national competition doesn't have any prizes except for the excluding bragging rights one would assume by having caught a fish that was 'this big!' (insert ever widening hands describing fish size here).
Currently, the fish adjacent is the winner so far. But it's also the first entry in the competition, so it would seem that Marcel De Paula will shortly be knocked from the lonely podium when a bigger fish is found. There are strict rules however! So said 'bigger fish' may be slightly more difficult to catch than one would think...
COMPETITION RULES
- All fish must be caught while standing or sitting upon your Stand Up Paddle Board. If you need to dismount or are pulled from your board while fighting the fish, this is acceptable.
- Only soft plastics/lures may be used whilst fishing in rivers/estuaries. Bait may only be used when fishing in open seawater.
- “S Factor” or scented spray is allowed.
- Photographic evidence must be taken of your fish beside a ruler or sizing gauge (e.g. beer can). This photo and a description of the catch, location, size, tackle used and SUP board must be uploaded to the Ocean Addicts Facebook page for your catch to be scored and points allocated against your name.
- Points are allocated according to the table on the Ocean Addicts website. If you have caught a species of fish that is not listed on our table still send in your picture and details and we will add your fish to the table and allocate points accordingly.
- There are no prizes for this competition except serious bragging rights for the leader board winner.
- Honesty is highly regarded in this competition, however innovative tactics outside of these rules are at the discretion of the angler and are encouraged.

In the meantime, check out this little video from some guys in the Brisbane River this weekend who caught some pretty worthy fish, albeit from kayaks, not a SUP from what we can see.
