Over the (big) ditch in California, Stand Up for the cure has presented a cheque for $60,000 US to Susan G. Komen Orange County, which will go towards breast cancer research and education. 

The final amount has only just been tallied up after the event in May, but it was a huge task with the combined efforts of demos, market stalls and live music all contributing to the donation pool. Organisers were stoked with the diverse age groups who showed up too; reporting that heaps of young guys and girls rocked up to lend a hand, and kept the vibe cool with no incidents on either land, or water. 

Not only did the 700 strong group of paddlers raise all that money, they broke a world record while they were at it! The Guinness book of records has now approved the attempt for the largest stand up paddle lesson with 414 participants on the water at last count! Zane Schweitzer
led the 400 strong lesson which mostly focussed on paddling technique and stance. The sea of pink t-shirts all bobbing around in the Newport bay was a sight to behold according to event organiser Dan Van Dyck. 

It's a great look for the sport of stand up paddling, and once again goes to show the power of a few (stand up) paddlers who strive for something bigger! Congratulations guys.
