Stand On Water - Casper Steinfath
Star of the world stand up paddling scene, known as the 'Viking', Casper Steinfath is currently making waves in both the political side of the sport through the ISA, and the competitive side in not only surfing but both racing disciplines.
To tell his story he’s teamed up with some film makers and is about to release his feature length documentary titled ‘Standing On Water’. The story behind Casper goes right back to his family, brothers and friends in the Danish surfing community, who grew the surfing scene from the ground up. The cold and murky water isn’t exactly the most picturesque in the world, but when the waves are on, they’re world class.
Just take a look at the short trailer released for the movie, showing Steinfath paddling out into some pretty gnarly conditions. It’s way overhead, brown and choppy as Port Phillip Bay in a 20 knot seabreeze, but that’s what he trains in. Maybe that’s why he’s so good?
One of the key players in the ISA (he’s the vice president), Casper is not only at the forefront of competitive paddling, but in terms of the polical minefield the sport is currently tip-toeing through. With the metaphorical carrot of the Olympic games being dangled in front of the ISA, Steinfath’s proactive position on uniting the sport is going to prove instrumental to any decision going stand up paddling’s way.
The documentary goes behind the scenes as Casper became one of the leaders in the stand up paddling game, and shows an insight into the unbelievably strong motivation he has for becoming the best in the world. Expertly shot by the team from ‘Empty Chair’, the 60 minute documentary is set to be released any day now, so look out for it in your local store, or on Vimeo online.
