Sharing the stoke of Downwinding
Downwinding is SUP at it's best...
Join the SIC crew on an epic downwinder adventure in San Francisco earlier this week. They brought along some famous faces like Tahlia Gangini, Jimmy Spithill and Nakoa Decoite to share the stoke with, and off they went. Paddling under the Golden Gate bridge, the crew were met with epic downwinding conditions for their paddle over 9 miles down the city coastline, which makes for some spectacular viewing.
What makes this little video special is the candid moments with the crew from SIC. These guys specialise in downwinder boards, and truly love this aspect of stand up paddling.
"When you're downwinding, you're out there with the ocean. You don't have a bunch of other guys with you, it's not a competition for who's catching waves, so for me it's a whole other aspect (of SUP). I mean, I still love the surf, but not having to deal with crowds or attitudes, or bad vibes is one of the best parts of it."
It's that kind of love that keeps us doing downwinders. Through all the pain of organising, carting boards around the coast and trying to work out if you're driving upwind or downwind and who's in your car in the first place... Downwinders are still, and always will be awesome.
