Save the date for Noosa Festival of Surfing 2013

The Noosa Festival of Surfing
Details have just been released for one of the biggest stand up paddling and surf events on the east coast, the Noosa Festival of Surfing.

The iconic break of First Pt, Noosa will play host to hundreds of surfers next March, when the annual Noosa Festival of surfing takes place yet again. Bringing together shortboarders, longboarders and stand up paddlers, the festival celebrates all things surfing and even attempts to draw in the racers by offering a battle of the paddle style event.

Last year, the addition of a dog surfing event saw the entire beach packed with spectators and competitors loved the laid back style of the competition. This year it's back due to last years success, and already we're hearing of pups being thrown on the nose of surfboards for training. We can't wait to see how many entrants they get this year!

In other disciplines, interestingly this year there's no age divisions in the stand up paddling short board division. According to organisers, this is what the 'old guys' wanted! So hats off to them for going head to head with the young guns.

Also new this year, is the one day format for the stand up paddling events. In what the organisers are calling 'Super SUP Sunday', the response from competitors over the years has been that it's hard to get the week off work to compete. So this year, all the stand up paddling events will be held (from heats to finals) on Sunday, including the BOP race, surf comps and dog SUP surfing. For the rest of the week they will concentrate on the more traditional forms of surfing - short boards, longboards and there's even some novelty events like finless surfing, nose riding and tandem surfing.

Keep an eye out for further details from the event as we get closer to the date. But in the meantime, mark down Sunday the 10th March for the Noosa Festical of Surfings Super SUP Sunday.
