Paddling in the quest to clean up Sydney Beaches

A marathon journey around Sydney...
In the latest bid to use stand up paddling as a carrier service for charity, Stuart Murray, founder of Suplove and well known paddler around Sydney is paddling around the Sydney Basin. He’s doing it to raise awareness of the amount of rubbish and marine debris on the beach. It’s a problem no amount of cleanup can prevent, only a change in behavior from YOU!

The journey takes him from Narrabeen Lake, out and up the coast, to Penrith. Then he’s walking for two days from there to Liverpool, where he’ll get back on the SUP and paddle his way out past Manly and Bondi, to finish again in the Narrabeen lake. An epic journey that he’s planned on taking two weeks from start to finish.

Along the way, he’ll be stopping to sleep in a comfy bed thanks to a few hotels chipping in some sponsorship, and he’ll be telling everyone he can about the damage our rubbish is doing to Australia’s (and the worlds) beaches. Do your bit and stop it!

After finishing the first day of his journey, Stuart was in high spirits and ready for the journey ahead, saying:

“Day One - Made it to Palm beach from Narrabeen Lake, 18.6km in 3 hours 21 minutes. A little wet weather today did not dampen our spirits. The longest journey starts with the first step. Thanks Alex Fraser for joining me and we took two bits of marine debri from the beach seen here in the photo. Inspired to paddle for Tangaroa Blue. Body felt ok today. Longest paddle in three months! Dangar island tomorrow”
