Paddle for Prevention - Ryan goes from the GC to Melbourne
Donate to help Ryan's cause!
Ryan Fulton is going on an epic journey in just over 20 days time. Stand up paddling from the Gold Coast, QLD, to Melbourne, Vic to raise awareness for heart disease. The feat has never before been done on a stand up paddle board, and will put Ryans name not only in the record book, but he'll go down in history as one of biggest paddles ever by a single bloke.
Along the way, Ryan's going to be spreading the message that through exercise and healthy living, heart disease can be prevented. It's a little known fact that the disease is totally preventable, so Ryans goal of raising $100,000 is certainly going to go a long way for the Heart Foundation.
On board with Ryan is Jamie Mitchell SUP, who have given him one of the JM pro open water race boards to make the journey on. These boards are popping up all over the place and dominating the Aussie stand up paddle racing scene. Maybe it's because of the Jamie Mitchell name, or maybe they're damn good boards, all we know is Ryan's totally stoked to be paddling it down the east coast!
"Every 23 minutes one Australian is killed by heart disease." Says Ryan in his online plea for donations. "Over the past few years I have stood on the sideline and watched as family members suffered and passed away from a disease that is the leading cause of death in Australia. I can stand to the side no longer, so I have decided to take on this journey and send out a challenge out to all Australian's during the month of November get out of your comfort zone. Try a new sport, change your diet, get off the couch and get moving so we can beat this disease together. You may not have personally been affected by heart disease, but there’s a chance someone you know has"
