This is one race series that will definitely have a hometown advantage for the local stand up paddlers. Those poor Queenslanders have probably never even seen a wetsuit thick enough for the Mornington Peninsula in August! 

Details have just been released about the Surftech Winter Classic stand up paddling weekend, which will be run on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria on the 11th and 12th of August 2012. According to the locals, it's set to be a fantastic even with a great course, good spread of divisions, varying courses and stacks of prizes and goodies to give away at the presentation. 

Major sponsors Surftech have donated a Jamie Mitchell Stand up paddle board to the prize kitty, plus there's $1000 cash and over $5000 in other prizes to give away. It's not the prizes everyone's after though, the beautiful Mornington Peninsula has heaps to offer stand up paddlers, and what's more - the local council and tourism authority is fully behind the event. It's going to be great! 

Divisions for the old guys are a-plenty, with the Seniors category including all board classes from the non-race board class up to the hotly contested unlimited divisions which usually see boards over 14 foot streaking along the race course. Masters only get a shot at the unlimited class, and the Juniors are allowed to ride a 12'6" or shorter, but it's all about racing your mates and having fun! 

Entries are open now, and if you enter and pay your fees before the 8th of August, you go in the draw to win the random prizes, so don't delay! Grab your wetly, book some flights and get down there for a chilly paddle in August.
