Noosa Festival of Surfing is open for SUP Registration!
The SUP Surfing comp's are spectacular at Noosa
Actually, the chances of missing out are pretty slim, because the Noosa Festival of surfing is being described as the largest surfing event in the world (by competitor numbers). But the point is - it's only a week away, and there's also heaps of fun events that are on before the competition actually starts.
One such event is the dig surfing exhibition event which takes place this Friday at 4.30pm. Experienced dog surfer Lani (owned by Chris De Aboitiz) will be setting the standard, and thanks to the Noosa Councils permission, other puppies and pooches are invited to join in the fun. It's these kind of events that make the Noosa festival unique, and more about the culture than the competition - although that's a massive part of it too.
Stand Up paddling will once again feature heavily in this years competition. Sponsored by the Sunshine Coast Airport, there will be both Surfing competitions run throughout the 7 day event, a 5 kilometre ocean race and a BOP (Battle of the paddle) style race held just before the opening ceremony on Sunday (March 11th). Last year the Stand up paddling competitions were heated and very close, this year several of the worlds big names in both surfing and racing will be in attendance, so we're sure to see yet another close battle for the titles.
Check back here later next week for pictures, movies and first hand reports - all in the Seabreeze.com.au Stand Up Paddling forums. For a taster of what's happening in Noosa next week, check out the video below full of action from last years event.
