New Stand Up Paddling Club in Sydney - Botany Bay
will form a base for the Botany Bay SUP Club
Run from the Georges River Sailing Club, which overlooks the gorgeous bay in the Sydney metro area. The club certainly has plenty of facilities at their disposal. The sailing club even has a resteraunt and bar which has been in action since 1964. They hold weddings, conferences and of course world class sailing events at the club, and as of late October, Stand Up Paddling will be part of the fun. It’s pretty rare to see such a large Sailing club get on board with the Stand Up Paddling movement, a welcome one, but rare none-the-less.
By running a series of weekly events, the club hopes to gain a following quickly, saying earlier this week:
"Kicking off mid to late Oct, we will have weekly events from 6pm Tuesday nights during day light savings for 1-1.5 hours Staple events will be a 2.5km time trial, with a mixture of other race formats including sprints, sup cross, technical courses and the possibility of a 5-6 km downwind if conditions are right. Every week we will also hold a social paddle with qualified instructors for those just learning to SUP or not wanting to race. The Beach is also great fun for the kids so we encourage you to bring the tribe. A Downwind course has been devised to take into account the summer N/E winds, starting from Kyeemagh back to our Dolls Point Club House, the course has plenty of bumps and runners and it is also a great place for people to learn downwinding as you can just turn into the beach if required."
Sounds like an amazing setup they have! Stay tuned to see how their insurance will work, and for more details on joining the club you can contact bbsupclub@gmail.com
