Life is pretty easy when you just surf - Stand Up Paddling

Beautifully narrated by Rob Pirie, this little ripper of a surf clip is one of the best we’ve seen in a long time thanks to some great clips, good narration and top notch production.

Thanks to Rob Pirie, ‘Tha Dogman’ and Daniel ‘Deems’ O’Sullivan, you’ll have something to watch over your morning coffee this morning, a great short film about not just stand up paddle surfing, but all forms of surf craft. It includes shots of shortboarding, stand up paddling and kiteboarding, as Rob narrates, “Craft of choice, it doesn’t matter, it’s all surfing.” A truer word hasn’t been spoken, and it would do a lot of good if more people thought this way! But speaking of true words, here’s the full narration (the best we could do from the audio anyway) so you can read it like a good poem.

“Life’s way too short to go out surfing on your own, no matter how perfect the wave is. Living a 9 to 5 life just adds nails to your coffin - but life’s easy if you just surf.

Craft of choice, it doesn’t matter, it’s all surfing.

The ocean can set you free from that early trip to the wooden box, just dive in and give it the chance. There’s no entry fee, or closing time. Huey’s consistent soothing rhythm runs around the clock, lapping at your feet whenever you leave your landlocked prison.

Whenever your life gets too hard, just walk into the ocean, into her green tube with a moist embrace.”

Living down on the Gold Coast and often venturing south to the Northern rivers area of NSW, Rob Pirie is known for making top notch films about surfing (and great stand up paddle racks!). Namely his full length stand up paddling movie “Living the stoke” which was released back in 2011. Since then he’s been a little quiet on the film making front, doing a bit of work for JP stand up paddle boards in conjunction with Keahi De Aboitiz, and you might remember that one with the stand up paddle surfing behind a massive fishing boat that made the news a few months ago. We’re glad he’s back on the film making track though, and we look forward to the next production from Von Piros!
