Getting in the mood for SUP - an insight from Dave Kalama

The man himself - Dave Kalama
When Dave Kalama speaks - pretty much everyone in the Stand Up Paddling world listens. Dave really knows his stuff, and is no stranger to the extreme sports spotlight. Since high school Dave has been winning events, pushing the boundries of established extreme sports (tow-in surfing & windsurfing) and contributing to new sports in their early development, like Stand Up Paddling.

Dave runs a fantastic blog which he updates almost every week, full of information on training, fitness and technique. Spend just five minutes reading the blog, hit the water and try some of what he says - you'll actually see some prety significant results in your Stand up Paddling. This week, he's written a great article on how to think for success - getting your mindset right in order to accomplish several smaller goals, rather than the one big one.

Here's an example, (and reading this extract alone will help your Stand Up Paddling!)
"The other day I was teaching someone to surf, and they were having a lot of trouble committing to the act of standing up once they caught the wave. So I told them they looked like they were standing up to go clean a toilet (meaning not very motivated). I want you to stand up like you are going to get a double dip of coffee Haagen Dazs. As soon as I said that I could see their whole attitude change from “maybe I can” to “you bet I will”.
