Finally! An Australia Stand Up Paddle record for charity.
A World Record for Charity - SUP the Murray.
Here's the good part, Paul wants to do the whole trip, without the aid of any kind of combustion engine - any movement he makes must be 'powered by Paul.' If he succeeds, he'll be the first in the world to Stand up paddle the Murray river, and he'll raise a stack of money for the Kids with Cancer Foundation.
Along the way, Paul expects to encounter some pretty gruelling challenges - like grade 3 and 4 rapids, as well as fatigue and some pretty hot temperates. He's also got to make the first 40km hike on foot, as the source of the river is only a little stream; not large enough to paddle on.
Further down the trip, once all the serious white water parts are finished - Paul's going to swap to a faster stand up paddle board - a Starboard K15, which will make the second leg of his journey a little easier. Despite having a support boat in tow for these legs (and no, that's not cheating) - He'll carry all his camping and supplies on his stand up paddle board.
Paul says:" I'm expecting the main paddle to take up to 70 days after about 15 days for the hike and the white water. It should be pretty straight forward, the plan is to be at the Murray River Mouth at the start of December, I'm hoping to get off the water before all the wake boats come out for summer holidays. :) I used to be a lover of the wake boat..... I think soon I'll be a hater. haha"
Along with the Kids with Cancer foundation - Paul is also stand up paddling to raise awareness for the Red cross, and the Australian Conservation Foundation. You can donate to the cause by visiting Pauls profile on the Everyday hero's webpage here.
