Crowded line up? Mow 'em down! Jackson Close Ripping an 8'0"
Jackson Close in the pre-JP days.
Jackson Close is pretty good, we know that, he knows that, and you can bet the guys paddling out at this break know it now! It takes both serious guts and incredible skill to surf like this with such a crowded lineup. Drop ins, guys duckdiving in front of you, numptys trying to paddle out. They're all out on this day, but does Jackson mind? Nope, he smashes it, huge drawn out bottom turns, snaps in the pocket and a couple of big hacks where he sprays buckets over the other surfers. Those who were there said he's well respected by the locals, and with good reason!
He's surfing one of two new boards from JP, the 8'0" and the 8'2" which aren't even out yet in Australia. Slightly controversial are the volumes of the boards, with the manufacturer stating they're 95L and 101L respectively; very close to Jacksons weight of 85kgs. With his weight so close to the volume of water, surely it's only just going to float? Guys in the forums are bringing in all kinds of salt water and foam densitys into the equation, but specifications aside, nobody is arguing that Jackson's riding in this video is second to none. How he went from surfing mals in longboarding competitions to surfing the smallest SUP's you can buy, in the space of only a few months is beyond us, but boy are we glad he did!
Check out the video, and if you think you'd like to paddle a tiny tiny board at your local, these boards from JP are due in a couple of months.
