Could the Stand Up World Tour be coming to Currumbin QLD?
While nothing is fully locked in yet, rumour is that the Stand Up World Tour will be in Perth for a surf event during the first week of May 2014. A week after that, there’s an event planned on the east coast, possibly Currumbin!
Here’s what SUPracer had to say about the Australian stop today:
“Planned from the 23rd to 25th May, 2014 - This is the only event that’s not 100% confirmed for next year and, given the logistics of hosting an event downunder, it’s certainly not guaranteed. However the Stand Up World Tour will be in Western Australia the week before, which will make things a little more logical. The Australian leg will essentially be a combined, “Grand Slam” event split between two sides of the country, with the SUP surfing in Western Australia and the SUP Racing over on the East Coast. Likely venue is Currumbin on Queensland’s Gold Coast, which is a paddling mecca.”
It’s early days still, but with so many Australian paddlers at the front of the pack around the world, we think it’s time the big players came down under for a taste of what we’ve got to offer! With both flat water and wave events, the Aussies are sure to show everyone where the best paddlers in the world are made!
Also on the location list, is Abu Dhabi, Brazil, Hamburg, Chicago, California and of course Turtle Bay in Hawaii. Last years event in Abu Dhabi was one of the most publicized stand up paddling events ever, so of course it’s made a comeback for 2014 as the first event in the series. Kicking things off with a bang, the event is rumored to be handing out over $60,000 in prize money to paddlers. If that doesn’t bring out the hot-shots, maybe they’re waiting for the Australian event!
