Christmas shopping for a Stand-Up Paddler

You know that scene in the 'Santa Claus' where he pulls a kayak out of his sack? Well, times are a changin' Santa! Who paddles Kayaks anymore?

Chances are you know someone who'd love some stand up paddling gifts this Christmas, but its always so hard to know what to buy!

So here's a little list of Xmas gift ideas for that SUP crazy person you know.

Remember to check out our site sponsors websites, and browse the Seabreeze Shop - it might save you from the crazy christmas shopping crowds at your local shopping centre!

Under $20
The under $20 category is a hard one for Stand up paddling, it's not exactly a cheap sport after all! But, those secret santa things usually have a $20 limit, or you might not like the person enough for a big pressie!

Floaty strap for sunglasses - Everyone has their favourite pair of sunnies, and if those sunnies dot happen to have a built in strap - get them one of these so they never lose their shades.

A couple of blocks of wax - no, not to take care of their bikini line - to wax their board! Many SUP's don't have full length deck pads, so if you want to get up on that nose, you gotta wax it up.

Surf Hat - They might not look 'cool', but surf hats are a great way to keep the sun off while you're out paddling in the waves. With a simple little chin strap, they stay on your head through the gnarliest of stacks.

Paddle Sock - The simplest form of paddle bag, a paddle sock is just that - a long thin bit of towel material that you slide your paddle into, to protect it from scrapes, bumps and marks. It's not going to save a paddle from the baggage handlers, but it'll keep your dog from putting his muddy paws all over it.

Under $100
For someone you care a little more about, the under $100 bracket is a great one for Stand up paddling gifts. There's way more options than we can list here, so here's the best ones.

Seabreeze Sunnies - Sunglasses designed for watersports just work better, they float - don't fog up and are usually polarised to help you see under water. Good ones even come in a hard case to protect them! The Seabreeze sunnies are a must have for any stand up paddler.

A new leash - Fact - leggies break... So having a spare on hand can only be a good thing! It might be a good idea to find out if the paddler prefers an ankle or calf and coiled or straight leash first though! Be sure to get a leggy that's a tiny bit longer than their board.

SUP related clothing or accessories - Stand up paddling clothing is hard to come by, so find some tee shirts and wrap 'em up. If you're not sure of their size, maybe a sweet beach towel or change bag?

A padded paddle bag - you've got to protect your shaft at all costs! A padded paddle bag will set you back around $100, but might just save that $500 paddle from being dented, creased or snapped in transit. Most are a universal size too, so it'll fit for sure!

Waterproof bag - Don't leave your loved ones waiting at the beach when their car gets stolen, the wheel arch isn't a great place to hide your keys! Get 'em a waterproof pouch and they can lock up the car properly. You can also get phones, cash or other useful stuff in there!

Hydration pack - Keeping hydrated is a must out on the water, so a Camelbak style pack is great for stand up paddlers on the go. A 1.5 - 2L pack is plenty for most paddlers and keeps the weight down to a minimum.

Over $100
Ok, so you're really keen on this person, or you're super cashed up. Either way, $100 big ones will get you something awesome in the present department.

GoPro camera - The ultimate in watersports cameras. The GoPro doesn't really need an intro - it's awesome, they just released the new GoPo HD2, buy one and you can't go wrong.

Handheld GPS - A little hand held GPS device will track speed, distance, where you actually paddled to and a whole lot more stuff. They're great for keeping track of training sessions, and for bragging to your mates!

A new board - the big one, if you want to go all out, buy them a new board! Make sure you quiz them on what kind of board they actually want, and good luck hiding it under the tree! If you're not sure about what to buy, have a chat to your local shop - they'll be happy to help you out!
