Change it up a little, take your SUP Fins out
Finless is not only great training, but fun!
The man has a point, and it's one that everyone should consider once in a while when it's crowded. Point breaks (expecially in Aus) can be small and tight, which is when it's usually packed out. So to make those small sloppy beachies more attractive, you've gotta add a challenge to it!
Finless surfing is enjoying a resurgence with the wooden Alaia surfboards, so why not bring Stand Up Paddle boards into the fun? Riding finless not only means you've got less grip, it opens the doors to a whole stack of new tricks that simply cannot be performed with a great whopper of a fin (or three) stuck in the back. This guy's got the 360 downpat, but also riding backwards, riding sideways and even some small nose rides.
It's also great training for your paddle technique, because nothing makes you go in circles faster than having no fins! It will seem fruitless at first, but with careful paddling technique and some tricky foot placement, you'll find your normal paddling will improve by leaps and bounds.
Next time you're our stand up paddling with your mates, and the beachies are small or sloppy. Grab a fin key, whip those puppies out and get ready to have a laugh.
