Candice Appleby doing a little freestyle for fun
Stoke, stroke, stroke, stroke, stroke, swap sides, stroke stroke… Training can get a little repetitive when you’re a racer, especially when you’re a professional like Candice Appleby. So she’s thought of a very weird looking way to have fun after a hard days training.
She goes a little crazy. Well she calls it ‘freestyle’ but to anyone on the beach it probably resembles someone who’s lost the plot. It involves doing some pretty crazy stuff, standing right on the tail and doing the most insane kick turns ever (amongst other tricks)… Pictured above is what we’re talking about, here’s what Candice had to say about it:
“It's not only fun, but a great way to get in tune with your equipment and get used to maneuvering your board when your fatigued. This is one of my favorite tricks. I call it the stationary layback.”
A few years ago we saw some guys from Europe doing similar things on stand up paddle boards, using their paddles as skipping ropes, running from one end of the board to another and even jumping in the air, doing a 360 and landing back on their boards.
