Big swell hits the Sydney Harbour Beaches

That's huge swell for inside the harbour!
You won’t see any barrels, aerials or massive hacks in this video, but it does show what SUP can do in less than perfect waves, even in the most unlikely of places.

Sydney harbor isn’t the first place you’d think of to go for a surf, but with the wild and wooley weather experienced this week along the East coast, the harbor beaches were breaking with a 2-3 foot swell making its way all the way inside the harbor.

This vid was taken from Nielson Park on Wednesday, when the usually butter smooth conditions turned into a packed out beach break with surfers jostling for position, dropping in and sharing many a party wave. The Stand up paddlers were loving it however with the small waves and mellow take-offs proving perfect for the SUP boards, and gave them a distinct advantage over the shortboarders.

Further down the bay at Dolls Pt there was still a decent swell rolling in, the above picture was taken by the boys from Kitepower Sydney earlier in the week of the breakwall outside their shop. While no surfers managed to get amongst it due to the wind, it was a spectacular sight none-the-less and one not often seen in Sydney Harbour or Botany Bay.

Further abroad, the swell was huge and the winds made it impossible for surfers or stand up paddlers to get out there, but the kitesurfers loved it!

Check out this video below for a bit of feel good action if you missed out on it all last week.
