Beautiful wooden Stand up paddle board - made from scratch

Out in Abu Dhabi, this guy did a pretty darn good job at making his own 14 footer. Sure, he might not have completely designed it himself - the plans are available to buy, but he did an incredible job of bring this board to life.

As anyone who's tried it knows, building anything from a plan takes time, perseverance and of course, some skills.   To complete this board, everything had to be made from scratch. First, each piece was cut out exactly to plan. Then, plywood formers were glued in place to the shape the hull around. Everything was fiberglassed, then the top layer was pressed together using a beautiful arrangement of wood - all laminated together under another layer of fiberglass. The top and bottom layer were joined, a deckpad was stuck on - and finally the fins (yep, a twinser) were glassed in place - ready for a test paddle.

Sounds easy, but in reality that's a lot of man hours, and it probably worked out more expensive than simply buying a production board - but hey, just look at it! What a gorgeous board...
