ASI Appoints General Manager Australasia

Surf and paddle education and accreditation organisation ASI headquartered in Sydney, Australia has appointed Jayme Edwards to the newly created position of General Manager – Australasia, responsible for Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
 
This newly created role highlights ASI’s commitment to developing and working with local operators to help them deliver the highest quality educational programs and instruction to service the growing adventure sports market.  ASI also works with its member schools to ensure good safety practices and sound risk management.  
 
With Mr Edwards’ background and experience in business, tourism and the surf school industry he is uniquely positioned to provide the same high level of service, support and guidance to ASI members they have become accustomed to receiving from founder Tanya Nesbitt.  His appointed will allow Ms Nesbitt to focus on ASI’s expansion into the US market. 

ASI currentlly  specialises in surfing, stand up paddle and bodyboarding, recreational sports.   A truly international organisation, ASI  has offices located in Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan and the UK, which also services the European market.  Trainers have been appointed in the US with the US office to open soon.
 
“Jayme’s senior management appointment to ASI is a reflection of the pace at which the adventure sports industry is expanding, not only overseas but across Australasia, and the demand for quality, reputable schools, instructors and course delivery. “Jayme comes to ASI with a solid background in business management and many years’ experience having operated surf schools and surf tours on Sydney’s busy beaches and along the east coast of Australia. At ASI we only work with the very best professionals to ensure the programs we deliver turn out highly competent, skilled and knowledgeable trainers and schools. 
 
“Jayme is the perfect fit for our organisation and I’m excited about the opportunities his involvement will bring to our members.  From early October he will be personally visiting all our member schools to see how ASI can assist them to develop and grow their businesses,” she added.
 
“After more than two decades of personal experience running surfing businesses I can totally empathise with our ASI members – after all I’ve walked in their shoes and understand the day to day issues they face.  I’m excited that through this role with ASI I’ll be able to help them solve some of these problems and see a path to growing their businesses,” added Mr Edwards.
 
Mr Edwards was most recently the owner and operator of Byron Bay Surf School, which he took over in 2003. In his role with ASI, he will be spending a lot of time on the road visiting members with bases both in Melbourne and Byron Bay.

 
BACKGROUND
 
ASI is not only an educator and registered training organisation with the absolute highest standards, but their portable qualifications allow instructors to work almost anywhere in the world.
 
ASI’s surf accreditation and training programs were developed in 2003 in conjunction with industry leaders including Cheyne Horan, amongst others and are considered the world’s most career focussed with four levels of achievement from beginner through to advanced.
 
In 2009 ASI was the first in the world to produce and launch a fully formalised and accredited coaching scheme for qualifying stand up paddle instructors.
 
In addition to accreditation and training, ASI provides accreditation for adventures sports centres (learn to schools), also publishes Learn to Surf manuals, which are internationally available via Amazon, and has developed a unique Surf Wise and SUP Wise education programs to be delivered by accredited surf and stand up paddle schools to junior and senior school students.
