A look back at the Huntington Beach Pro

The iconic Huntington Beach Pier makes a great photo...
While the worlds eyes are on Doheny Beach today for the Battle of the Paddle, lets take a look back at last weeks Huntington Beach Pro to see some incredibly surfing from the worlds best stand up paddleboarders.

The iconic location can be recognized instantly, those huge black pylons from the pier are in every shot, with the stand up paddlers even surfing straight through them if the sections allow! Huntington beach is famous for not only the amazing pictures, but the world class waves that the beach break produces on a regular basis. Sadly, this wasn’t to be the case last week for the Huntington Pro but stand up paddlers had a great time none-the-less in 2-3ft beachies.

Like in surfing, small waves generally mean we’ll see a lot of fins. Stand Up Paddling is the same, and over the course of the competition we got the chance to see most of the stand up paddlers crank into a fast bottom turn and punt their boards off the lip, most using the paddle to stabilize themselves on the way down. It’s very technical surfing and one that’s becoming more and more like professional surfing, and less of a fringe sport.

Check out the video to see what we’re talking about, and stay tuned for all the racing action after this weeks Battle of the Paddle event in California.
